Reporting to the Sr. Director, Field Medical Affairs, the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will focus on developing and maintaining peer-to-peer relationships with key medical experts. This role will primarily support the Viridian TED program. The MSL will collaborate with physicians and other medical experts to support trial enrollment, provide program and protocol training, and ensure that health care professionals have the most up to date information as the clinical development programs mature.
This role is fully remote, and the ideal candidate will be based in the eastern portion of the United States to support the East region. Travel to headquarters for meetings may be required at the discretion of management.
Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
- Ensure that all activities and interactions comply with Viridian business guidance, policies, SOPs, Office of Inspector General (OIG), Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, (ACCME) and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA)

- Establish and maintain credible per-to-peer scientific interactions with national and top regional opinion leaders as well as clinician and researcher in relevant therapeutic areas specifically, the ophthalmology community
- Serve as a primary resource for clinical and scientific information related to Viridian’s science, research and products
- Present accurate, fair balanced scientific information to medical and scientific communities including at medical conferences and Viridian-sponsored meetings
- Respond appropriately to request for scientific or medical information utilizing approve materials
- Serve as a liaison for the submission, review, execution, and completion of Investigator Sponsored Trials (IST) proposals
- Compliantly contribute to cross-functional projects upon request
- Communicate practice or research-related insights to medical affairs leadership and share cross-functionally if directed to do so
- Develop and maintain awareness of the competitive landscape and communicate trends to medical affairs and share cross-functionally if directed
- Provide input into the development of and ensure the appropriate execution of the strategic Medical Affairs plans and initiatives
- Assist with the identification of sites for company-sponsored trials
- Actively participate at medical conferences with summarizing relevant sessions, covering the booth, and proactively facilitation thought-leader interactions
- Support clinical development initiatives including site identification, trial recruitment, registry, and presentation of final approved data
- Collaborate with physicians on medical affairs initiatives including publications, advisory boards, medical education opportunities, training, and speaker development
- Serve as scientific peer-to-peer resource to external disease experts and internal stakeholders
- Support the medical community with up-to-date medical information, robust disease expertise, and product information
- Communicate clinical insights on new data to Viridian Medical Affairs to inform medical strategy for the therapeutic area
- Train internal stakeholders on key scientific and medical topics in relevant therapeutic area
- Develop an understanding of the regional landscape including specialties involved in care of patients
- Maintain effective and appropriate communication among internal stakeholders while maintaining full compliance with relevant requirements
- Generate tactical regional plans to provide needs-based, value-added support of the medical and scientific community, in alignment with company goals
- Uses systems to strategically map, identify, profile and prioritize thought leaders in line with the medical plan and goals
- Maintain accurate reporting and documentation of MSL activities
Requirements
- Requires an advanced scientific or clinical degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, OD) with at least 5+ years of experience in Medical Affairs or Medical Science role
- Experience in a start-up, entrepreneurial environment preferred
- Current clinical development experience supporting drugs to treat rare diseases; prior ophthalmology experience preferred
- Candidates must have well-established networks and active relationships with KOLs in the ophthalmology community
- Strong initiative and functions well as part of a cross-functional team
- Excellent time management
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Excellent presentation skills
- Must be a pro-active team player, amenable to change, and comfortable working in ambiguous situations
- Proven mindset for proactive continuous improvement

- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.)
- Ability to travel up to 75%
- The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience
